The Ladder competition is comprised of 5 sections with 6 rinks per section and takes place on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. The Ladder reflects the skills of the curlers as “A” Section being the strongest and rinks are allowed to move up the ladder as to how they improve during the year. This is accomplished by being successful during the 4 round robin draws during the season and ultimately qualifying for the playoffs. Five trophies are up for grabs in the Ladder.

The Helliwell Trophy

helliwellThe Helliwell Trophy was presented to the Club to be used in weekly competition as a challenge trophy, the purpose being to build strong rinks which would compete in provincial and national competitions. The trophy was donated by Wallace W. Helliwell during the 1930-31 season. Over the years, the trophy became the senior trophy. During the late 1950's, throughout the 60's and into the 70's, the competition for this trophy was keen with play involving twelve rinks scheduled on Monday night. The winning rink was considered to be the top team in the Club and generally represented the Club at major outside events.

The Ewing Trophy

The Ewing Trophy was donated to the Club in 1926 by Sydmer W. Ewing, a former Mayor of the City of Pointe Claire and President of the Club in 1927-28. During the period of most active membership, this competition consisted of 12 rinks with games played on Tuesday night.

The Hal Brown Trophy

In the 1965-66 season, this trophy was donated to the Club by Mrs. Harold "Fanny" Brown, in memory of her husband, "Hal" Brown who had been an active member (primarily with the Match Committee) throughout his many years in the Club. This competition was originally made up of 12 rinks and was normally played on Wednesday night.

The Wilf Gray Trophy

In the late 80's, there was a need to establish another rung in the "ladder". Betty Gray and family presented the Wilf Gray Trophy in April of 1990 in memory of Wilf Gray, President of the Club in 1977-78. The trophy was used the following season for the new "ladder" competition.

The Reg Piper Trophy

This trophy was named for R.H. (Reg) Piper, President of the Club 1934-36, and Club Historian. This was the competition considered to be the entry into the "Ladder" for newly formed rinks.

In the "Ladder", the two top rinks moved up to the next section, while the two bottom rinks moved down. With changes in the scoring, it became possible to move two sections at a time.
