Match 2011 –12 Season
The Match Committee is responsible for organizing the on ice Leagues, Bonspiels, Draw Events as well as Specialty Events.
The Ladder competition is comprised of 5 sections with 6 rinks per section and takes place on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. The Ladder reflects the skills of the curlers as “A” Section being the strongest and rinks are allowed to move up the ladder as to how they improve during the year. This is accomplished by being successful during the 4 round robin draws during the season and ultimately qualifying for the playoffs.
The Lanthier is a round robin event where each game is against a new opponent. This league is on Wednesday and Thursday evenings. Each rink is allowed a combined rating of 10 comprised of the ratings of positions (skip-4, thirds-3, seconds-2, leads-1, greens 0). It is also the league that new curlers must be included in where ever possible. Rinks are encouraged to register with 3 experienced curlers on the assumption that a green will be added.
The Mixed is a round robin affair and culminates with an overall winner. Curling takes place on Friday nights & Sunday late morning and early afternoon. The Ken-Kan-Kup is the mixed post season event which involves a limited round robin with point totals being the deciding factor.
Draw Events include the President’s, Pat Lid, and Vice President’s. Each event is a sign-up and rinks are selected by the Match Committee. These events take place on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Other Draw events include Doubles and Green Singles which are played on Tuesday and Thursday just prior to the evening draws. The Points competition rounds out the Draw schedule with 4 events taking place on Sunday mornings and the final on a Saturday morning.
The Opening, Mid-Season and Closings Bonspiels are fun events with 6 end games to allow curlers to play with different people and whether welcoming in the new season or wrapping up the year there are always good laughs and great food.
The Calcutta and Skins are our week long events that take place in early February and March. They are sign–up affairs with attendance being extremely high.
The curling events which pretty much look after themselves are the MacDonald Cup and the Guest Cup. The MacDonald Cup is a friendly competition between Pointe Claire and Royal Montreal Curling Clubs and used as a fundraiser for one of Montreal’s Charities. The site alternates each year. The Guest Cup was revived after a sabbatical year and was well received by selected members and their invited guests. The War Memorial is celebrated on New Year’s Day following the Levee.
