The Second Place Trophy

2010...

On March 8, twelve Senators from Pointe-Claire headed out for Alexandria to try and "win" the challenge for the very first time. Instead, they returned with the Second Best Trophy once more, meaning they had lost the challenge (see below for an explanation of this new tradition).

Here we see current Senate Chairman Wally Denver accepting the Second Place Trophy on behalf of the Pointe-Claire Curling Club for the fourth... consecutive... year...

A new tradition is born

On Thursday, October 25, 2007, a new event was inaugurated on the sheets of the Pointe-Claire Curling Club shed. Twelve brave curlers from the Alexandria Curling Club agreed to play against twelve equally brave Senators, in what was to become the first of a friendly annual match between the two clubs.
Organized by Jim Purvis (PCCC) and Jim Morris (ACC), the challenge is made up of two home-and-home games, the second of which will be played this year on November 19th at the Alexandria Curling Club. Total points from both matches will determine the winning Club.
"Up for grabs" is a newly created trophy, to be known as "The Second Place Trophy", because it is the second best team that wins it..!
The inaugural event was well attended, as it was held on the Pointe-Claire Senators' October Luncheon date. Over fifty people witnessed the beginning of what, it is hoped, will be a wonderful addition to our curling tradition.
Seated at the head table are, from left to right, John Thullner, publicist and photographer, David Moon, PCCC President, Paul Brideau, Senators Chairman, Brian McGregor, ACC President, and Jim Purvis, co-organizer.
