Emptying your cache

Are you having trouble locating the most recent pages of our web site? Some of them change daily, others, several times a day. Our resident "compuguru", Bob Wood, offers these tips:

Changing cache settings
In Firefox To clear your Cache, Cookies and History
1. Go to Tools > Options.

2. Click Privacy in the menu on the left side of the Options window.

3. Click the Clear button located to the right of each option (History, Cookies, Cache).

4. Click OK to close the Options window

Alternatively, you can clear all information stored while browsing by clicking Clear All. A confirmation dialog box will be shown before clearing the information. To reload a page at any time:
* Click the Reload button in Firefox's Navigation Toolbar. The computer checks the Internet to make sure you have the latest version of the page.

In Internet Explorer (MicroSoft)
Often referred to as the cache, the Temporary Internet Files folder contains a kind of travel record of the items you have seen, heard, or downloaded from the Web, including images, sounds, Web pages, even cookies. Typically these items are stored in the Temporary Internet Files folder.
Storing these files in your cache can make browsing the Web faster because it usually takes your computer less time to display a Web page when it can call up some of the page's elements or even the entire page from your local Temporary Internet Files folder.
Clearing Your Browser's Cache

All those files stored in your cache take up space, so from time to time, you may want to clear out the files stored in your cache to free up some space on your computer. This is called clearing the cache.
To clear your cache:

1. On the Internet Explorer Tools menu, click Internet Options. The Internet Options box should open to the General tab.

2. On the General tab, in the Temporary Internet Files section, click the Delete Files button. This will delete all the files that are currently stored in your cache.

Bob Rondeau adds:

Depending on which browser and which keyboard are used, words meaning the same thing may vary:

Enter = Return

Backspace  = Delete

Preferences  = Options

Refresh = Reload

We recommend that you use Google for doing searches, because it seems to find what you are looking for faster.

Using gMail archives every email ever sent or received, off your computer, for free. To be invited to use gMail, send an email to Bob Wood (bodiwood@gmail com ) or myself (bob.rondeau@gmail.com ).

In descending order of preference, these browsers all work well with our site:

Firefox

Netscape (very stable)

Opera

Internet Explorer

Browser of choice for Mac users: Safari.

A word about monitor resolution:

The two most used settings, according to our website stats, are:

1024 X 768

and

800 X 600

We are currently supporting both display settings. Those who can should reset for 1024 X 768, but a screen measuring at least 15 inches diagonally is recommended.

Set your browser to allow cookies, javascript and pop-ups.

Empty your cache daily or choose to save visited web pages in the cache for the smallest amount of time allowed ( 1 day is fine).
